'Jallad Shahjahan' freed from jail after around 32 years

Shahjahn Bhuiyaan, popularly known as Jallad Shahjahan, was released from prison on Sunday (June 18) after serving around 32 years' in jail.

He was the chief hangman of Dhaka Central Jail.

Shahjahn, 72, walked out from Keraniganj Central Jail around 11:45am on Sunday with a smiling face. He was then accompanied by around 10-15 jailers.

His sentence was commuted to 32 from 42 years for his good works in prison.

Shahjahan Bhuiyan was arrested in 1991. He was then kept at Manikganj jail.

Following a petition from Shahjahan's family, the jail authorities paid his finned money of Tk 10,000 as the financial condition of his family is not good.

Jallad Shahjahan has executed 26 death-row convicts since 2001.
