Dr Kamal Hossain has announced his resignation from all political activities as well as from the position of president at Gonoforum.

He made this announcement during the Special National Council held at the National Press Club auditorium on Friday (27 October).

In a written statement, Kamal Hossain said, "Since the party's inception, I have walked this path with you, striving to collectively address national problems and crises. However, given my age and physical condition, actively fulfilling the duties of the president is no longer feasible for me. In light of this, I hereby resign from all political activities and from the position of president within the public forum.

"I will endeavor to contribute to the country and its people to the best of my ability from my personal capacity. My dedication to the party, as well as my sentiments, empathy, cooperation, and guidance to the party's leaders and activists, will always remain steadfast. In this context, I urge the councilors present at this special national council of Gonoforum today to announce the new leadership today in order to fortify and organise the party," he added.

Dr. Kamal Hossain expressed hope that the central committee, democratically formed during this council, will play a pivotal role in national politics in the days ahead.

He concluded, "May you always be at the forefront of propelling Bangladesh forward in the spirit of the Liberation War, upholding democracy and ensuring the stability of the nation. Victory to Gonoforum, victory to the people."

Dr Kamal played a pivotal role in the formation of Bangladesh. He was a key legal advisor during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and was instrumental in drafting the country's first constitution after independence.

After the liberation, Dr Kamal served as the Law Minister of Bangladesh in its first government.

He played a crucial part in formulating the constitution of Bangladesh in 1972, earning him the title "father of the Bangladesh constitution."

Dr Kamal later moved to the opposition, becoming a critic of the government. He founded Gonoforum in 1992, a political party that emphasises democracy, human rights, and social justice.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Dr Kamal was a prominent advocate for democracy and human rights in Bangladesh. He played a leading role in movements against authoritarian rule.

Besides politics, Dr Kamal is a distinguished lawyer with a successful international career. He has served as a member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations and as a judge at the International Court of Justice.

Over the years, Dr Kamal has contested in various national elections. His party, Gonoforum, has been part of different political alliances and coalitions.

Dr Kamal is known for his strong advocacy for the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary in Bangladesh.

He has represented Bangladesh in various international forums and has been involved in diplomatic efforts on behalf of the country.

Dr Kamal continues to be an influential figure in Bangladesh politics and legal circles.
