Crticising the new visa policy announced by the US government, Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has said Bangladesh could announce visa policy too.

“Let them (US) implement their visa policy, we don’t care about it. There is question around the world about standard of democracy of a country, which is announcing visa policy. We too have visa policy and could announce it. Wait for it,” said Quader after visiting construction works of elevated expressway in Gazipur’s Tongi on Saturday.

Mentioning about BNP’s comment that they will prevent the election, the AL general secretary said, “We now observe that how new US visa policy works about this announcement.”

Quader said, “US will be able to restrict the issuance of visas those people who will obstruct free and fair election, according to their visa policy. We will examine whether this visa policy goes blind and dumb or becomes realistic.”

While responding to a question from a journalist, Quader said corruption and misrule are relevant to BNP. Why they are talking too much those who did corruption and misrule, he questioned.

“We are hearing from BNP leaders such comments-- ‘government could not remain in power,’ ‘government to resign,’ -- for long 14 years. Will they be able to remove the government those who did not do any visualize movement to free their leader Khaleda Zia in those 14 years?” Quader said.

Road Transport and Highways Division secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Bridges Division secretary Monjur Hossain, Gazipur Metropolitan Police commissioner Mahbub Alam and deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman, among others, were present at that time.
