Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has paid a tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital after receiving the status of a minister.
Awami League nominated Mayor Atiqul came to Dhanmondi along with party leaders and city corporation officials and employees on Tuesday morning, reports Bangla Tribune.
Paying his respects, he told reporters: "On this day, I want to thank the prime minister for giving me the status of a minister."
“As Bangabandhu stood by the common population, his daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also stood by the people. I and my councillors will try to follow it,” he added.
The mayor promised to serve the city residents properly in the coming days.
On Monday, the mayors of two city corporations of Dhaka were given the status of ministers and the mayors of Chittagong and Narayanganj city corporations were given the status of state ministers through a notification published by the Cabinet Division.
