Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs minister Anisul Huq has said the Digital Security Act (DSA) will be amended, if necessary.

"We have taken measures to ensure that cases are registered after proper verification and avoid immediate arrest," he said while talking to reporters after the Deputy Commissioners' Conference 2023 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.

The law minister said that they had also formed a committee after consulting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to find out good and bad aspects of the Digital Security Act. "If necessary, we can certainly amend the Digital Security Act."

He also said that the Law Ministry has proposed to raise salary of public prosecutors by dividing the districts into three categories-- large, medium and small. Salaries of PPs in large districts proposed at Tk 50,000, medium districts at Tk 45,000 and small districts at Tk 40,000.

"We have sought Tk 267 crore from the Ministry of Finance to implement the proposal which will come into effect after the next general elections," he said.

The Law Minister said the government has planned to launch the Independent Prosecution Service.

Replying to a question, Anisul Huq said there is nothing known as "political cases." "Cases were filed as they had committed crimes. Those cases are ongoing. Those will be tried."

At the session with the DCs, Anisul Huq highlighted the government's initiatives to ease the long-running backlog of cases. "I have talked about alternative dispute resolution and legal aid services."
