The death toll from dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease, has risen to 790 this year as 12 more patients died during the last 24 hours across the country.
According to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday, among 12, four were undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka and the rest were outside it.
A total of 2,129 new dengue patients were hospitalised during the time. With the latest figure, a total of 1,61,964 were admitted to hospitals this year.
Of the new cases, 899 were reported in Dhaka city and 1,250 were from various parts of the country.
The DGHS said a total of 9,891 patients are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals where 4,016 are in Dhaka.
A total of 1,51,283 were recovered from the hospitals which were 93 per cent of the hospitalised patients. And the percentage of fatalities is 0.5.
The country recorded 281 dengue deaths in 2022 and 179 deaths in 2019.
Additionally, the DGHS recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
