A Dhaka court rejected the petition by BNP Executive Committee Member and former DNCC mayoral candidate Tabith Awal to sue 16 people including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani police station Noore Azam over an attack on him in September this year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge Asaduzzaman dismissed the plea, said Tapas Kumar Pal, additional public prosecutor of the court.
On Monday, Tabith Awal filed a petition to sue 16 people under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act, 2013.
Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League Vice-President Kader Khan, its former vice-president Jasim Uddin, former general secretary Mir Mosharraf Hossain and Joint General Secretary Amzad Hossain are among the accused.
BNP leader Tabith Awal was attacked by a group of unidentified youths while returning from a party program in the Banani area of Dhaka on September 17.
He was admitted to United Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the attack.
