Police have arrested the owner of 'Barishal Hotel and Restaurant' in connection with the Chawkbazar plastic factory fire incident that killed six people on Monday.

Mohammad Fakhruddin was arrested from Keraniganj early Tuesday,  Chawkbazar Model Police Station SI Rajiv Kumar Sarkar confirmed.

All the six dead were employees of the restaurant located on the ground floor of the four-storey building that caught fire on Monday noon.

A case was filed against four people, including the restaurant owner and the building owner, with Chawkbazar Police Station on Monday night following a complaint from Mohammad Ali, the elder brother of deceased Rubel.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (Lalbagh division) deputy police commissioner Jafar Hossain said police are trying to nab the owners of the building and plastic factory.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been kept at Mitford Hospital morgue for an autopsy. After autopsy the bodies of the victims, who have been identified, will be handed over to their relatives.

DNA samples will be collected from relatives of those deceased who have not been identified, the police official added.

A devastating fire broke out at a plastic factory at Kamalbag in old Dhaka's Chawkbazar area at 12 noon on Monday. It soon spread the whole building.

After distinguishing the blaze, Fire Service and Civil Defence members recovered six bodies from the 'Barishal Hotel and Restaurant'.
