Cautionary signal No 3 has been issued and water transportation has been halted in Noakhali's Hatia upazila due to low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal.
All routes, including Nalchira-Chairmanghat in the district, have been declared closed and all vessels have been ordered to stay close to the coast until further notice.
The authorities have stopped all river traffic operations on the orders of the upazila administration since Friday morning (19 August), confirmed Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Selim Hossain.
The Meghna river area and its adjoining Bay of Bengal area are witnessing rough weather due to the influence of a low pressure. It has been raining with strong winds in the upazila since dawn.
Water transport operations will remain suspended till further notice, said the UNO.
