The total population of Bangladesh stands at 169.8 million.

The information was revealed at a press conference organized by BBS at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sherbangla Nagar on Sunday

Planning Minister MA Mannan was present at the press conference.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released this information according to the preliminary report of Population and Housing Census 2022.

It is said that 4,670,295 people have been added to the PEC (Post Enumeration Check) and the adjusted total population of the country stands at 169,828,911 people.

Among the total population, 68.34% lives in villages and 31.66% in cities.

The press conference revealed that Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) conducted the country's first digital population and household census from June 15-21, 2022.

The enumerated total population of the country was given in the preliminary report published on July 27.

The Bangladesh Institute of Development Research (BIDS) conducted a completely independent post-census verification PEC survey in October 2022 to determine the coverage and content errors caused during the enumeration after the census was completed as per statistical methods and international protocols.

In the press conference, Dildar Hossain, project director of Population and Housing Census 2022, presented a comparative picture of the total population calculated in the census and coordinated through PEC.
