Five-time world champions Australia, at last, saw the victory after three matches beating Sri Lanka by five wickets in the 14th game of the World Cup in Lucknow.
The men in yellow easily chased down the scanty total of 209 runs with 14.4 overs in hand at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Targeting 210, Australia fell under a little bit pressure losing two early wickets in 24 runs. But Mitchell Marsh (52) and Josh Inglish (58) came with strong hands and completed their fifties to set the platform the easy win.
Marnus Labuschagne (40), Glenn Maxwell (31) and Marcus Stoinis (20) made it rapid to overtake the small target so easily.
Dilshan Madushanka was the only bowlers who kept the Aussie batters under pressure and took three wickets for Sri Lanka while Dunith Wellalage got one.
Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 209 runs in 43.3 overs despite having a decent start. They lost all of their wickets within 84 runs after they, at one stage, were 125/0.
Opting to bat, Sri Lanka got a decent start as they crossed the 100 mark without losing any wicket. Two openers Pathum Nissanka (61) and Kusal Perera (78) came with positive mindsets and made a 125-run stand between them.
After breaking the partnership, Sri Lanka fell into a collapse and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. No other batters could stand before the Australian bowling lineup after they had lost both of their openers.
Charith Asalanka played a 25-run knock in the middle but was not enough to avoid the collapse within 43.3 overs.
Leg spinner Adam Zampa took the highest four wickets for Australia while each of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins got two.
