At least 467 people were killed and 672 injured in 541 road accidents across the country in November. Among the deceased, 53 were women and 66 were children. A report prepared by the Road Safety Foundation revealed the information on Saturday. It said a total of 181 people died in motorcycle accidents which is 38.75 percent of the total deaths. Total 06 pedestrians lost their lives, comprising 22.69 percent of the overall fatalities.
Dhaka Division takes the lead in road accidents, accounting for 25.50pc of incidents, with an equally distressing 25.48pc in fatalities.
Tragically, within Dhaka city alone, 26 reported accidents claimed 20 lives and left 31 injured. Meanwhile, Chattogram emerges with the highest accident count among districts, tallying 38 incidents resulting in 49 fatalities. Sylhet Division, however, experienced the lowest incidents, with 21 accidents and 16 casualties, emphasizing the regional disparities in road safety. According to the release, 34.56pc occurred on national highways, 42.88pc on regional roads, 14.97pc on rural roads, and 6.09pc on urban roads, with a further 1.47pc transpiring in other locations. Besides, five people died and three injured in waterway accidents, while 19 died and 16 injured in railway accidents.
