31,447 examinees didn't appear on first day of SSC exams, 20 expelled

A total of 31,447 examinees didn't appear at the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations on Sunday (April 30, 2023), the first day of the biggest public examination in Bangladesh.

Of them, 17,192 examinees were absent from the examinations at 9 General Education Boards, 11,383 at Madrasa Education Board, and 2,872 at Technical Education Board. Twenty more examinees were expelled for adopting unfair means on the first day of the examination.

It was stated in a press release signed by Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, Convener of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and Chairman of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, on Sunday afternoon.

The press release reads that Bangla First Paper examination under 9 General Education Boards,  and Technical Education Board was held on the first day of SSC exams. Besides, Quran Majid and Tajbid examination was held under Madrasa Education Board. No information of leaking question papers or any untoward incident was reported from anywhere of the country on the first day of examinations.

According to the information of the boards, there were 15,08,819 examinees under nine general education boards this year. Of them, 14,91,627 examinees appeared at the examination. Of the absent examinees, majority of 4,222 examinees were from Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, while 1,607 were from Chittagong Education Board, 1,720 from Rajshahi Education Board, 1,026 from Barishal Education Board, 940 from Sylhet Education Board, 2,247 from Dinajpur Education Board, 2,618 from Cumilla Education Board, 978 from Mymensingh Education Board and 1,834 from Jashore Education Board.

Twenty examinees were absent on the first day of the examination for adopting unfair means. Of them, four were from General Education Boards, five from Madrasa Board and 11 from Technical Education Board.
