Three people have died of 'alcohol poisoning' at Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah district.
The deceased were Jahangir Kha, 36, local trader of Arpara area of the district town; Bipul Das, 45, rickshaw-puller; and Rajib Hossain, 26.
Of the three, one died at home and two others at different hospitals around 11:30pm on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the alcohol trader Rezaul Islam, owner of Reza Homeo Hall, went into hiding soon after the incident. His mobile phone was also found off.
It was learnt that three people fell sick after consuming alcohol on Thursday night. Jahangir died at his home, Bipul Das died at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital, while Rajib at Jashore sadar Hospital.
Kaliganj Police Station SI Sekendar Ali said, "We heard about the death of three persons of alcohol poisoning till now. But without an autopsy, it will not be confirmed that they had died of alcohol poisoning."
