25 injured as BCL men ‘attack’ Chhatra Odhikar Parishad activists at DU

At least 25 people were injured after Bangladesh Chhatra League men allegedly attacked the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad on the Dhaka University campus on Friday morning while they were observing anniversary programme.

Witnesses said the BCL men allegedly carried out the attack when leaders and activists of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad brought out a procession from Raju Memorial Sculpture and was marching toward the TSC around 11am on Friday. BCL men allegedly obstructed them, triggering the scuffle.

The Chhatra Odhikar Parishad men also got into a clash with the BCL men. The injured are from both groups.

During the incident, 25 people, including general secretary of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad Ariful Islam Abid, were injured.  

The injured were taken to different hospitals in the capital.

Among them 15 were at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, four were at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital, three Gonoshasthaya Hospital, three to another hospital

Nawaz Khan, president of the Government Titumir College unit Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, said some BCL men chanting joy bangla slogan attacked them in the front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture on Friday morning while they were observing the anniversary programme.
