Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) have taken to the streets to topple this government, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

“The movement has spread across the country from Dhaka University. Leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal will not return home until the government falls,” said Fakhrul while addressing at a discussion held at National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday.

National People’s Party (NPP) arranged the programme demanding fair elections under a non-partisan government.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “We must be united to free people from the grasp of Awami League. BNP has started movement to restore democracy but not to put any person or party in power.”

About Chhatra League-Chhatra Dal clash at Supreme Court premises, Fakhrul said, “BCL terrorists have entered the Supreme Court and attacked. However, Chief Justice and leaders of the Supreme Court Bar Association did not issue a statement. It is because, today, the government has turned all constitutional, democratic institutions into partisan institutions.”

The BNP secretary general said, “Awami League even did not allow their party founder Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani to stay in the party. He was harassed on the party council. Later, he quit the party and formed National Awami Party.”

He further said, “Awami League has tortured BNP leaders and workers in the last 13 years. They filed cases against 35 lakh leaders and activists. This situation must end.”

Mirza Fakhrul asked all to get united from their respective positions to forge a mass movement against this government.

He said fair elections are not possible under this government.

BNP Vice Chairman Babu Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim, Former DUCSU vice president Nurul Haque Nur addressed the programme, among others, with NPP chairman Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad in the chair.
