The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Saturday adopted Bangladesh-sponsored "Culture of Peace" resolution, reaffirming the global commitment to dialogue, tolerance, solidarity and peaceful coexistence.

The resolution, titled "Follow-up to the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace," was adopted by the General Assembly, renewing                    international support for promoting peace through dialogue, mutual understanding and multilateral cooperation, in New York on Friday, according to a message revived here this morning., .

Introducing the resolution, Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury said building peaceful,  inclusive and resilient societies requires   sustained  dialogue, mutual understanding, respect for diversity and steadfast adherence to the principles of the UN Charter.

He thanked member states for their constructive engagement and broad support for the resolution, calling for renewed collective efforts to promote dialogue over division, cooperation over conflict and understanding over intolerance.

Originally adopted in 1999 at Bangladesh's initiative, the resolution has since become the United Nations' principal framework for advancing a global culture of peace.

It promotes the values of respect for diversity, tolerance, solidarity and non-violence while reinforcing international efforts to prevent conflicts, foster peaceful coexistence and strengthen multilateral cooperation.
