Bangladesh women’s national cricket team made a winning start to defend the Asia Cup title as they beat Thailand by 9 wickets at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Ground-2 in Sylhet on Saturday.
Chasing 82 to win, Bangladesh made 88 runs losing only one wicket in 11.4 overs.
Wicketkeeper and opening batter Shamima Sultana laid the foundation for Bangladesh as she scored 49 runs from 30 deliveries with ten boundaries.
Earlier, Bangladesh bundled out Thailand within 82 runs in 19.4 overs.
Rumana Ahmed was pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as she grabbed three wickets conceding just 9 runs from three overs while Sanjida Akhter Meghla, Shohely Akhter and Nahida Akhter took two wickets each.
The tournament was supposed to be held in 2020 but the outbreak of the Covid-19 hampered the progress. A total of seven Asian countries are participating in this tournament this year.
The Tigresses won the Asia Cup in 2018 for the first time, beating mighty India in last ball thriller in Malaysia.
