Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took Tamim Iqbal to Ganabhaban on Friday afternoon to meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sources said.

Tamim's wife Ayesha Siddiqa also accompanied her husband.

As Mashrafi and Tamim went to Ganabhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also called in BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon there, a source also said.

Mortaza is also ruling Awami League lawmaker.

It follows after Tamim Iqbal unexpectedly announced his retirement from international cricket, abruptly ending his 16-year international career at a news conference in Chittagong on Thursday.

Tamim announced his resignation while surrounded by a reporters. It happened the day after Bangladesh's defeat in the first of the three ODIs against Afghanistan.

Tamim's retirement came as a shock to the cricket community, with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hassan Papon asking him to reconsider his decision.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also called Tamim to talk about the issue, and the left-handed opener returned to Dhaka from Chittagong responding to her call, as the cricketing world eagerly waits to see if he makes a return to the team with the ODI World Cup just around the corner.

Tamim's Ganabhaban visit also came on the advice of former captain and lawmaker Mashrafe.
