Star kids look like ‘boiled eggs’, says Kangana

Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut is in the headlines, sometimes for her larger-than-life roles, and sometimes for her controversial statements regarding nepotism in Bollywood. She is outspoken about the abundance of opportunities provided to star kids in the industry, compared to and to the ones she refers to as 'outsiders'.

The "Tanu Weds Manu" actress shared her uptake on why Bollywood productions are not able to meet their expected turnout at theatres whereas South Indian productions are ruling over the silver screen these days in an interview recently.

With films like "KGF", "RRR", and "Pushpa: The Rise" beating mainstream Bollywood productions with their Hindi dubbing screenings, Kangana feels that the audience finds Bolly-town star kids failing to relate to the audience. Thus, they fail to leave their imprint on their viewers.

"The way they (South stars) have a connection with their audience, it is very strong. With us what happens is that their (stars') kids go abroad to complete their studies," asserts Kangana in an interview with ABP Live. "They talk in English, and watch only Hollywood films. They eat only with knife and fork and talk differently. So, how will they connect? They look like boiled eggs. Their entire look has changed so people cannot relate. I don't mean to troll anyone."

To explain her point further, she draws on the example of the Allu Arjun starrer blockbuster "Pushpa: The Rise". "Look how Pushpa looks like someone we know. Every labourer is able to connect with him. Tell me which of our heroes can look like a labourer in today's times? They cannot. So, their culture (of South Indian film industry) and their grounded nature is paying them off. I hope they don't start taking inspiration from the West. It's important to stay connected to people within your country," she added.

Kangana is currently busy promoting her upcoming spy action-thriller "Dhaakad", which is slated to release on May 20. The film, directed by Razneesh Ghai, also casts Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta.
