Seven Bangladeshi nationals killed in Saudi Arabia fire

Nine people, including seven Bangladeshis, were burnt to death in a fire incident that broke out at a furniture workshop in commercial area of Al-Hofuf city, 350 kilometres away from the capital Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening (local time).

The Bangladeshis were identified as Arif Md Sahadat, (PPN- 2535176339), Barek Sardar, (PPN-2247439850), Md Shakil Pramanik, (PPN-2505378568), Saiful Islam, (PPN-2529922326), Ruman Pramanik, (PPN-2472470588), Md Firoz Sardar Ali, (PPN-2493217968), and Md Rob Hossain, (PPN-24377954260).

Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh Press Wing first secretary Fakhrul Islam confirmed the matter.

Among the injured, two are undergoing treatment at the burn unit of King Fahd Hospital and the bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue, he said.

"The cause behind the fire incident could not be known immediately and we are closely monitoring the situation and a team from the embassy is present at the spot," the press wing said.

Steps will be taken to send the bodies back to Bangladesh immediately after all legal procedures, Fakhrul Islam added.
