Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid tribute to the victims of August 21 grenade attack by placing wreaths at a makeshift memorial built in front of Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.

She placed the wreaths at a makeshift memorial, built in memory of the victims of the grenade attack, on Monday morning.

Sheikh Hasina first paid the tribute as the Prime Minister about 10:58am and, later, paid homage as Awami League president.

Twenty-four people, including the then president of Awami Mohila League, and late president Zillur Rahman's wife, Ivy Rahman, were killed in the attack August 21, 2004.

Over 500 others suffered splinter wounds in the attack and many of them were disabled for life.

The attack was carried out at an anti-terrorism rally of Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka.

Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped fatal injury in the attack. However, her hearing was impaired by the impact of the repeated grenade blasts that occurred near the truck-dais, at the huge public rally.
