Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general M Khurshid Hossain has said there is no possibility of militant attack on International Mother Language Day (21st February).
He made the remark while addressing a press conference on the overall security taken on the occasion of International Mother Language Day at Central Shaheed Minar premises in Dhaka on Monday (February 20) afternoon.
The RAB DG said, "No intelligence agency, or our own intelligence department has received the threat of any kind of militant attack so far on the occasion of the 21st February. We also don't think that there is any such threat. However, we will continue our vigilance."
Responding to a question of a journalist of fleeing militants from court, he said it was not only police's failure, rather it was the failure of all who were responsible for maintaining law and order. "But, our efforts are going on. They will be caught today or tomorrow if they remain in the country."
Khurshid Hossain said: "As far as we know, they are in the country. The RAB catches accused depending on technology. But, the absconded militants have become clever. They don't keep any technology. We are now working manually."
He further said the plainclothed RAB personnel have constantly been maintaining vigilance. Apart from setting up checkposts at Central Shaheed Minar, RAB is working in coordination with other law enforcing agencies. RAB's bomb disposal unit and dog squads will be sweeping the Central Shaheed Minar. RAB's special forces and helicopters will be kept readied to deal with any kind of untoward situation.
