A Dhaka tribunal has framed charges against three people, including businessman Nasir U Mahmood and his associate Tuhin Siddique Omi, in a case filed by Dhallywood actor Pori Moni on charges of attempted rape and murder.

Judge Hemayet Uddin of Dhaka’s Ninth Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal framed the charges on Wednesday.

The tribunal also set August 1 to begin recording testimonies of witnesses.

The other accused in the case is Shahidul Alam. Savar model police station Inspector Md Kamal Hossain, who is the investigation officer of the case, filed the chargesheet against the three on September 6 last year.

Pori Moni filed the case at Savar model police station on June 14, 2021. The actor, whose real name is Shamsunnahar Srity, claimed Nasir and Omi had wanted to rape and murder her when she visited Dhaka Boat Club on the night of June 8.

Soon after the case was filed, a manhunt was launched and suspects Nasir and Omi were taken into custody. Dhaka Boat Club expelled Nasir from its executive committee on June 14, 2021, hours after the real estate businessman was arrested in the rape case.

Following their arrest in Uttara, police filed a narcotics case with Airport police station against Nasir and Omi over the recovery of liquor and yaba pills during their arrest.

Three women were also arrested with them. They were also remanded for three days in the second case.

Meanwhile, denying the Dhallywood actor’s claims, Nasir in a Facebook post on July 4 last year accused Pori Moni of misbehaving at the club in a drunken state and seeking to defame him.
