A man was detained with 34 gold bars and ornaments, weighing about 4 kilograms, from Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport on Wednesday.
Detained Md Saiful Islam of Lohagara upazila in Chattogram landed at the airport by an Air Arabia Airlines flight around 7:30 am.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) officials said getting a secret information that a passenger from Sharjah will come to the country with gold bars, a team of CIID conducted a drive at the aircraft.
They then seized the gold bars and ornaments, worth about Tk 3.20 cores, from Saiful during the search, said AKM Sultan Mahmud, deputy commissioner of the Customs Intelligence.
A process is on to take legal steps against the detained man, he added.
