The government has extended the tenure of Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun by one and a half years till 11 July 2024.
Postponing his retirement due on 11 January, the Ministry of Public Administration appointed him as the IGP of Bangladesh Police on a contract basis for the next working years, according to a release issued on Monday (9 January).
Mamun, a former director general of the Rapid Action Battalion, was appointed IGP on 30 September this year, after the retirement of police chief Benazir Ahmed.
This is the first time the government has deferred the retirement age of an inspector general of police.
Former IGP Benazir Ahmed's application for one year extension was rejected by the government.
