Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to appear before the Islamabad High Court on Friday after the Supreme Court declared his arrest illegal.

Khan, chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has challenged his arrest in a corruption case in the high court, Al Jazeera reports.

The PTI says Khan will make a pubic statement outside the court after the hearing and has urged his followers to reach Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani government has vowed to rearrest Khan should he be released by the Islamabad High Court where he is due to appear on Friday.

Interior minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said authorities would re-arrest him, setting the stage for more unrest.

“If he gets bail from the High Court Friday, we will wait for the cancellation of bail and arrest him again,” Sanaullah told Dunya TV.

Pakistan police, however, have imposed an emergency order banning gathering of more than four people as supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan are expected to march to the capital on Friday.

Nearly 2,000 people have been arrested so far and at least 11 killed after Khan’s supporters clashed with police, attacked military establishments and set other state buildings and assets ablaze, prompting the government to call in the army to help restore order.
