Physicians have suggested to take BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad to avail treatment, said the party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He said prayers were submitted to the government on behalf of the party and family many times to allow Khaleda Zia go abroad for treatment.

Fakhrul stated it while addressing a press briefing on 'Budget 2022-23: BNP's Reactions' at the BNP Chairperson's office at Gulshan in the capital on Saturday.

The BNP leader said, "The prime minister has long been ignoring the issue of Khaleda Zia's treatment abroad on the ground which is not right. She rejected the necessity of sending Khaleda Zia abroad repeatedly. The BNP chairperson has fallen sick again today. It proves that her life will be in danger unless she is given advanced treatment abroad."

In the wake of the situation, no decision has been taken at the party level so far, he said. "We'll discuss the matter. No decision has been taken so far. People want to see that she has been sent abroad for treatment."

Fakhrul said application was submitted on behalf of the family to send Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment. Khaleda's family members also met the prime minister. In spite of it, no permission was given.

The BNP Secretary General said, "Though they (government) are un-elected one, I again urge them to allow sending Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment in order to save her life. Otherwise, I repeat once again that the government will have to shoulder all the responsibilities."

Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia had a mild heart attack last night (Friday). "We have been saying that she should be sent abroad for advanced treatment on urgent basis. But, the government is not paying any heed to our calls. The government will have to shoulder all the responsibilities of it."

Khaleda Zia suffered breathing complications after she was admitted to hospital on Friday night. Later, members of her medical board decided to conduct her angiogram. Khaleda Zia's angiogram was completed at about 1:00pm on Saturday.
