Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Harun-or-Rashid of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will be punished over beating up of two central Chhatra League leaders at Shahbagh Police Station.
"If police does such wrong, then he will be punished, he will have to answer why he did it."
The minister said this to journalists at Aftabnagar Regional Passport Office in the capital on Sunday.
An allegation has been raised against ADC Harun that he beat up two Chhatra League leaders after taken them to Shahbagh Police Station on Saturday night. Later, the critically injured two leaders were admitted to hospital.
When asked about Harun-or-Rashid's torture to the Chhatra League leaders, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, "Whoever did this, whether the police or whoever, should be punished for wrongdoing." Why he did this, we will ask. He must be held accountable for his wrong actions."
The BCL leaders are Central Organising Secretary and Dhaka University's Fazlul Haque Hall President Anwar Hossain Naeem and Central Science Affairs Secretary and Shahidullah Hall General Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim.
